The APN Trainee Program was created in April 2019 from the experience of the first APN implementation in neurosurgery. The idea is to prepare Master's students for the new APN role while they are still studying. They are given the opportunity to take 4 days off per month to complete the steps of the PEPPA framework with the help of nursing mentors. At the end of their studies, they can use the results to expand their APN activities.
- Preparation for the specific requirements of an APN at the MHH
- Structured concept for role identification and implementation
- Prevent "being a stranger"
- Creating transparency for all those involved
- Carrying out an analysis of the current situation as a basis for working as an APN
The trainee program is divided into modules that are based on the degree program modules. Tasks for role implementation are to be completed in the modules. The trainee program comprises approx. 4 days per month over a period of two years.
Internationally recognized concepts are used for role development:
- Core tasks according to Hamric 2014 (Hamric 2014)
- Methods of project management (Gächter 2015)
- Methods of action research (Mccormack et al. 1999)
- Role implementation PEPPA framework (Bryant-Lukosius and Dicenso 2004)
