We are the team of respiratory therapists...

and work mainly in the intensive care units and intermediate care units at Hannover Medical School.
We specialize in the areas of respiration and ventilation and our task is to improve the quality of care and patient safety in this area. We are involved in the care of artificially ventilated patients and provide support in weaning patients off mechanical ventilation and optimizing secretion management. Individual treatment strategies are developed and implemented as a team in close consultation with the attending physicians and nursing staff.

In order to provide the patient with optimal therapy, we work in a multi-professional and interdisciplinary manner with all relevant professional groups in the intensive care unit. Our activities include the initiation and optimization of home ventilation therapies in the acute phase of illness, secretion and tracheal cannula management as well as various inhalation techniques. Due to our focus on treating patients with respiratory failure, we have extensive knowledge of special ventilation and lung replacement procedures. We also support and train our colleagues in special positioning procedures (abdominal positioning, drainage positioning) and are the point of contact for difficult situations throughout the weaning process. Advice for patients and their relatives is an integral part of our work. We also offer further training on various pneumological topics at Hannover Medical School in order to further improve the quality of care.
