Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School.
Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses with specialist training in surgery and endoscopy as well as surgical assistants. We are part of an interdisciplinary team and work very closely with various professional groups who all have the same goal: to provide the best possible care for our patients.
Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources. New colleagues are introduced to their new tasks in accordance with an induction guideline developed by our surgical department, which guarantees our patients a high standard of safety and care.
We guarantee continuous care for our patients by working early, late and on-call shifts.
Our nursing work focuses on the care and support of patients with retinal and macular diseases, glaucoma, cataracts and corneal diseases.
Our aim is to improve quality of life by restoring or maintaining vision through surgery on the anterior and posterior segment of the eye as well as muscle surgery (strabismus surgery) and eyelid surgery.
Eyelid operations include, for example
- Reduction of the palpebral fissures (tarsorrhaphy)
- Operations on the eyelids (entropion/ectropion)
- tumors
- Hailstone (chalazion)
- Tear duct surgery
Operations in the anterior segment of the eye are e.g:
- Cataract surgery
- Glaucoma surgery
- Corneal transplantation (keratoplasty)
- Corneal stabilization (amnioplasty)
- Laser treatment (cyclophotography)
Operations in the posterior segment of the eye are e.g:
- Removal of the vitreous body in the event of bleeding, opacities, retinal detachment (vitrectomy)
- Retinal surgery (cerclage/plombe)
- Retinal cold treatment (cryocoagulation)
- Retinal laser coagulation
High demands are placed on the surgical staff in our Department. Handling fine microsurgical instruments and the finest suture material as well as working predominantly in a darkened operating theater requires a sense of order, concentration and sensitivity. The short operating times and quick changes also require flexibility.
Outpatient operations are carried out in the ophthalmic polyclinic, which can be performed under local anesthesia. Patients are cared for before, during and after the operation by the surgical nursing staff.
