Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Ward 75 is part of the Clinical Department of Nuclear Medicine and specializes in the treatment of thyroid diseases, neuroendocrine tumours and prostate carcinomas with radioactive drugs. Due to the applicable radiation protection regulations, these treatments can only be carried out under inpatient conditions.
We are a small team of qualified nurses with many years of professional experience who work in a modern workplace in a pleasant environment. Some of our employees also have additional qualifications in the field of oncological Nursing.
The professional care of our patients requires us to have a high level of professional and social skills. We have created certain structures to maintain and promote these.
In the early shift, 3 nursing staff generally look after all patients as well as pre-inpatients and additional patients. In the late and night shift and at weekends, all patients are cared for by 1 nurse.
In order to keep up to date with the latest knowledge, we offer inpatient and departmental training courses. We also use an internet portal for independent e-learning. New employees are trained using an induction concept to ensure a high quality of care.
We work closely with other professional groups providing care, such as physicians, diagnostic department staff and the patient transport service, in order to optimally adapt processes to the needs of our patients.
The focus of our nursing work is on monitoring and treating patients following treatment with radioactive drugs.
The ward has been extensively renovated so that it meets the modern requirements of a nuclear medicine therapy ward. It has 10 air-conditioned beds in single and double rooms and offers our patients modern facilities for the best possible care.
This includes holistic patient observation and Nursing, training and counseling of patients after the administration of radioactive drugs, taking into account their special resources and psychosocial aspects.
Due to the applicable radiation protection regulations, treatments can only be carried out under inpatient conditions. The statutory radiation protection regulations require special precautions when handling radioactive substances.
In order to guarantee this safety standard and to be able to offer optimal Nursing and treatment, we work according to quality guidelines that are specified by the legislator and implemented by us together.
Our current focus is:
- Treating and Nursing patients with diseases of the thyroid gland (benign and malignant diseases as well as organ enlargement), special neuroendocrine tumors and bone metastases
- in addition to general treatment care, we provide pre- and post-treatment care for radioactive therapies
- administration of medication
- blood sampling
- nursing education and training before and after therapy on the important rules of conduct on the ward
- advice before discharge on behavioral measures at home
We ensure continuous care in a 3-shift system in order to restore the well-being and health of our patients in interdisciplinary cooperation.
The planned admission
You or your GP should contact our outpatient clinic to arrange an admission appointment. You will be informed of the time and day of your admission by your attending physicians. If you have any questions or uncertainties, please call us (Tel.: +49511 / 532 - 2752).
If you come to the first admission, you will need
- a referral from your attending physician
- the chip card of your health insurance company
- if possible, all previous medical findings, usual and special household medication and special devices such as sleep apnea devices
Before you are admitted to the ward, you must first be admitted as a pre-inpatient or inpatient. The "central patient admission" in building K6 is located directly at the "Polikliniken" entrance. You will receive all your documents there and then come to us on the ward.
On the ward, you will be welcomed through the patient gate by a nurse, who will then explain the further procedure to you.
Special organizational features
All our therapies are carried out with radioactive substances and are only permitted on an inpatient basis for radiation protection reasons. For this reason, only persons with radiation protection monitoring are allowed to enter the radiation protection area (ward 75). Our patients are not allowed to leave the ward for at least 48 hours after radiopharmaceutical application until they are discharged.
Visitors may not be received on the ward. Relatives can of course leave personal items that are still needed. Pregnant women and children are generally not allowed to enter ward 75. The only exception: the children are the patients themselves.
We ask for your understanding.
In exceptional cases, it is possible for an accompanying person to be admitted. If you or a relative have this wish, please let us know. For relatives who would like to stay nearby and do not have accommodation, there is a list of hotels and reasonably priced guesthouses here near MHH, which you can obtain from the porter in the ward block at the main entrance.
If you would like to talk to the physician treating you, we will arrange an appointment.
The rooms
All air-conditioned rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV, telephone, WLAN and a safe (in each patient cupboard). Your bedside telephone can be used with a telephone card for a fee. You can purchase the telephone card for a deposit from a machine in the shopping street. The use of cell phones is permitted on our ward.
The ward also has a friendly, modern lounge in the "active area" with a TV, magazines and drinks, which patients can use together during their stay.
Food and drink
Food is delivered in a tray system. You can choose from a range of 6 different menus, and additional requests are taken into account. If you have any questions, your carer will be happy to help. You also have the option of storing your own food in our patient fridge. Please note that we can only store a limited amount of food.
Daily routine
We try to adapt the daily routine to the needs of the patients as far as possible. We therefore only have a few fixed times on the ward. However, the daily routine of our patients is mainly determined by diagnostics and therapy.
To make your stay more pleasant, we offer you equipment such as the Flexi-Bar and a stepper for light physical activity. You will find corresponding flyers with examples of exercises in the waiting area.
