Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School. It is planned, carried out and evaluated in a patient-oriented manner, taking into account the psychosocial situation. We are responsible for a certain number of patients within the scope of nursing care.
Patients are accommodated in single and double rooms. Ward 85 also looks after patients with private insurance. As a rule, rooms are allocated according to medical criteria and the requirements of private health insurance. We are happy to accommodate individual requests.
Our nursing team consists of qualified nurses (some with additional qualifications) who work full and part-time. Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources. New employees are introduced to their new tasks in accordance with an induction guideline developed by our ward, which ensures a high standard of safety and care for our patients.
Our team is complemented by a part-time service employee. She works as an assistant to Nursing and carries out small nursing tasks under the guidance of a registered nurse. She also assists patients with their many everyday personal needs.
We ensure continuous care by working in a three-shift system in order to restore the well-being and health of our patients through interdisciplinary cooperation.
The focus of our nursing work is on the care and treatment of patients with liver, kidney and pancreas transplants. This also regularly includes the care of patients who have a living donation performed for relatives.
The holistic nursing care includes the following points:
- Assisting in the performance of minor surgical procedures
- Advice, guidance and support for patients and relatives
- Carrying out treatment care
- Carrying out diagnostic and therapeutic measures according to physician's orders
- (taking blood samples and administering intravenous medication)
- Carrying out prophylaxis
- Carrying out special and complex wound treatments
- Basic care
- Mobilization and implementation of positioning measures
- Psychosocial care
Another focus is the care and support of patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. This includes
- Surgery of the gallbladder and bile ducts,
- fistula treatment with complex wound care and intestinal surgery for Chron's disease and
- ulcerative colitis
- Hernia surgery (groin, navel, scars, abdominal wall, etc.),
- liver surgery,
- Lymph node resection for dermatological diseases,
- malignant and benign tumor surgery of the gastrointestinal tract,
- pancreatic surgery,
- thyroid surgery
The Ward 81 is the affiliated general surgical intensive care unit. This is where patients are treated and monitored postoperatively.
In the care and nursing of patients with tumors, we are guided by our concept for oncological care at the MHH.
You have been given an appointment for inpatient admission at the visceral surgery outpatient clinic.
On the day of admission, you come to building K11 / Transplant Surgery and Women's Clinic and go to the inpatient admission desk on the basement floor. There you will be admitted to ward 85. Then take the elevator to the 2nd floor and register with the nursing staff of ward 85.
Further information about your stay:
Dear patient,
Dear patient,
On behalf of all our staff, we would like to welcome you to our ward. Wards 11 and 85 are part of the Clinical Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery. We would like to provide you with some useful information for your stay in hospital.
Organizational procedures
On the day of admission, please register first in the patient admission department, where all the necessary formalities will be clarified with you. You will then be received by a responsible nurse on the ward assigned to you as part of the nursing and medical admission process. The aim of the following admission is to get to know you better, to familiarize you with our procedures and to prepare you as well as possible for your upcoming stay. Following the nursing admission, various examinations will take place. These include blood samples and smears, explanations about possible examinations or operations and the associated anesthesia explanations. The anesthesia explanations are planned independently by the Anesthesia Department during the course of the day; you will be called or an anesthesiologist will come to your ward for a consultation.
Important:
When you leave the ward, please sign out with the nurse responsible for you and optionally leave your cell phone number so that you can be reached for any upcoming examinations.
As part of the organizational processes such as discharges and transfers from our intensive care unit, we may not be able to clarify the room allocation on your day of admission until later in the day. We will inform you of the current status as soon as it is possible for us as a nursing team. We ask for your patience in the event of waiting times.

Our visiting times are based on the usual MHH times from 12:00 to 20:00.

Nursing care
Each nurse looks after a defined group of patients. This nurse is your direct contact person. Trainee nurses are regularly assigned to our ward. Trainees are professionally supervised and instructed in special learning situations by trained specialist nursing staff.
Medical care
On the day of admission, the ward physician will take a medical history and provide information. Further treatment measures are determined, registered and carried out on the basis of these discussions. This takes place at different times.
The ward round takes place daily on our ward between 07:00 and 10:00.
