Hannover Screening of Study Conditions (HSC)

The Hanover Screening of Study Conditions (HSC) has supplemented the course evaluations at the MHH since 2004 and serves to systematically record the study conditions and living conditions of students in order to identify potential for improvement in studies and thus ensure continuous further development.

In terms of content, the HSC uses scale-based items to assess student satisfaction with central Facilities or Institutions at the MHH. For example, the quality of advice and the structure of services offered by various institutions and the facilities, services and learning opportunities available to students on campus. Finally, the questionnaire asks about obligations and commitments outside of studies in order to record the additional time and workload of students. Due to its growing importance, there has also been a question section on digital teaching at the MHH for a few years now. The HSC concludes with the opportunity to evaluate previous studies in retrospect. Students can also use free-text comments to express praise or criticism of the study conditions.

Since 2022, the HSC has been set up as a panel, which makes it possible to monitor individual evaluations over time while complying with the GDPR. Students receive a link to the survey each September; participation is voluntary at all times.

The study programmes involved in the survey are Human Medicine, Dentistry, Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Biomedical Data Science, Public Health and Midwifery Science. In order to obtain an overview of the course of study, students from different study phases are deliberately contacted and asked to participate. The aim is to gain an insight into and analyze the changes in assessments and evaluations over the course of the study program and thus to tailor the offers more precisely to the needs of the different sections of the study program.

The results of the respective HSC are sent to the degree program coordinators or the Deans of Studies and stored as a file in the MHH learning management system (ILIAS), password-protected and without free text comments in the respective degree program folder: eLearning: Evaluation & Capacity

In addition, the individual results of the surveyed service facility are sent to the respective responsible persons so that they can discuss the students' suggestions internally.

Recurring and frequent topics in the students' free-text responses are the quality and prices of the Canteen, the desire for more (group) workstations/rest areas and an expansion of the library. In some cases, the high workload during studies was noted and an improvement in the quality of the Wi-Fi was requested.

The information provided by participants will be treated confidentially and used exclusively by the Office of Academic Affairs - Evaluation & Capacity in anonymized form for statistical analyses (quality assurance in studies and research). It will not be passed on to third parties.
