Module-related teaching awards in the Master's degree programs
Biochemistry, biomedicine and biomedical data science
In order to make exceptional commitment to teaching publicly visible, the MHH has also been awarding module-related teaching prizes in the Master's degree programs in Biochemistry, Biomedicine and Biomedical Data Science for several years, thus distributing part of the annual LOM teaching awards in the form of module-related teaching prizes. For the 2023/2024 academic year, a new procedure was developed and adopted by the Senate to ensure that the winners of the Master's degree courses are determined as fairly and equitably as possible. Students have the opportunity to vote for the modules they consider to be the best in a voting procedure. The total prize money varies between €20,000 and €30,000 depending on the study program. Since the procedure was changed, the respective course coordinators have been responsible for determining the monetary value of the individual modules. Previously, the entire implementation, questionnaire preparation, survey support and results reporting was carried out by the Evaluation Office.
Eligibility to vote:
Students who were enrolled in the 3rd or higher semester at the time of the teaching award evaluation (including students currently on leave or who have been on leave in the past) and had completed all compulsory modules are eligible to vote. All students entitled to vote have three votes for the selection of the best modules.
Voting mode:
- All students have the opportunity to evaluate the best (compulsory) modules. For each of the selected modules, the students award a score between 1 (poor) and 15 (very good) in three categories ("Overall module rating", "Teaching materials" and "Supervision").
- An arithmetic mean is then calculated for each module from the points in the individual categories. In a second step, the overall score for each module is calculated from these mean values as an arithmetic mean, with the category "Overall module evaluation" accounting for 50% and the two categories "Teaching materials" and "Supervision" each accounting for 25%.
- A ranking list is then created from the weighted averages of the individual modules. Based on this ranking list, as many modules are considered for the allocation of teaching LOM until a minimum value of 2/3 of the votes cast in the survey has been reached.
- All modules determined in this way receive teaching LOM on a pro rata basis. The place achieved within these modules no longer plays a role in the distribution of funds; the teaching LOM is awarded on a pro rata basis according to the number of votes cast per prizewinner out of the total number of votes for all modules to be considered.
Example:
10 students take part in the election of compulsory modules and all students have three votes for the compulsory modules. All 10 students use one of their votes for the same module. Accordingly, this module receives € 6,666.67 with a total prize money of € 20,000.
