Further information
This central course of the HannibaL model degree program is intended to give medical students an insight into clinical medicine right at the beginning of their studies and to create an understanding of the systematics of medical problem-solving strategies: from patient problem to diagnosis, on to therapy decisions and rehabilitation.
This highly interdisciplinary course uses selected clinical pictures (kidney disease, back pain, speech disorders, cancer, lung disease) to teach the first steps of the clinical approach, but also to illustrate the importance of the basic medical subjects.
In the 5th year of the model degree course in medicine, students are given a comprehensive insight into this complex subject area in a two-week block. In addition to lectures on numerous topics such as the therapy and rehabilitation of diseases and functional disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous system, students learn about the principles of therapy and receive detailed information on special topics such as early rehabilitation, dysphagia therapy, the treatment of CRPS, incontinence rehabilitation and manual medicine.
Internships give students the opportunity to acquire practical skills and apply the specifics of physical and rehabilitative medicine (PRM) to patients. A full-day excursion to an inpatient rehabilitation clinic also gives them an insight into the typical work processes in the field.

How does the PJ work?
- During the 16 weeks, you will first get to know the team and observe physicians and therapists. Once you have arrived, you will supervise patients in the outpatient clinic in the mornings, either in the general medical consultation hours or in a special consultation hour (pelvic floor rehabilitation, pain rehabilitation, amputation rehabilitation, hand rehabilitation, sports medicine at the Lower Saxony Olympic Training Center). In the afternoons, you will mainly look after inpatients and get to know all of the team's specialist therapeutic professions (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, massage therapy, sports therapy and sports science). You will also have the opportunity to work on projects and, if you like, give small lectures or take part in internships and seminars. Of course, there are also plenty of team meetings, training courses and practical tips.
- By the end, you should have developed your physician-patient communications, be able to examine patients properly, draw up a rehabilitation plan, prescribe therapy and write a "presentable" physician's letter and, last but not least, pass our fair exam!
- We are a nice team and enjoy working together as equals and you will be surprised how much fun it is to work with us ;-)

We offer clinical traineeships and work shadowing for students of all years.
We focus on outpatient medical work in the areas of anamnesis and clinical examination, as well as interviewing and assessment of complex rehabilitative cases. In addition, skills in manual interventions carried out by physicians can be learned and deepened. We also organize work shadowing in the therapeutic professions in order to gain a broad overview of physical-medical therapies. We welcome your interest throughout the year and always offer 1-2 places for you to work with us.

Since its foundation in 2008, the IsiEmhh program launched by the clinic management has stood for the promotion of the integration of students with an international and foreign-language background at Hannover Medical School. One focus of the project is on intercultural skills, which are becoming increasingly important in our modern multicultural society and place greater demands on the medical profession. IsiEmhh specifically supports first-year students with a foreign language background in the first year of the model degree course in medicine, HannibaL. The aim is to make it easier for them to get started with their studies and their new living environment.
In addition, IsiEmhh has set itself the task of raising awareness of the topic among other employees in teaching at the university as well as in healthcare and research and integrating them into the program.
