The MHH in the VUD

The MHH is a member of the Association of University Hospitals in Germany (VUD)

The 37 German university hospitals together with the medical faculties play a special role in the healthcare system. Due to their combination of research, teaching and patient care, they are in a position to treat even the rarest and most serious diseases according to the latest medical standards. They develop and test medical innovations and ensure that new scientific findings reach patients as quickly as possible. University medicine also ensures the further training of physicians in special disciplines such as pediatric cardiology, neuropathology or transfusion medicine. The university hospitals ensure round-the-clock emergency care at the highest level. With their interdisciplinary medical care centers, they ensure that patients with serious illnesses have access to the expertise of a wide range of disciplines.

MHH Vice President Martina Saurin has been a member of the VUD Board of Directors and Chair of the Personnel Committee since July 2021. In July 2025, Saurin was elected second Chairwoman. "Pioneering decisions are pending for hospital care. How we shape future care and cutting-edge medicine in the interests of patients is above all a question of efficient staff deployment. The restructuring of the hospital landscape is a challenging task in view of demographic change and the shortage of specialists. We will continue to play a constructive role in making hospital structures fit for the future," emphasized Saurin following her election.
