Appointments

Appointments make a significant contribution to ensuring the quality and shaping the profile of universities and colleges and have a lasting impact on the direction of research and teaching.

At the same time, appointment procedures are the most important tool for reducing the underrepresentation of women in leadership positions and for implementing the mandate for gender equality set forth in the German Basic Law and the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG).

When appointing professors, the Presidium of Hannover Medical School (MHH) places particular emphasis on strengthening the MHH’s research priorities. The goal is to attract the best possible candidates from Germany and abroad in order to enhance the institution’s national and international competitiveness. Depending on the focus of the professorship, additional performance criteria (in the areas of teaching, patient care, leadership skills, and technology and knowledge transfer) play a significant role in the selection of suitable candidates.
