The art therapist
Anne Nissen
Anne Nissen meets seriously ill children and adolescents at the MHH Children's Hospital with brush and paint. These include young patients who are urgently waiting for an organ or have already received a transplant. These young people are usually overwhelmed by emotions and often caught up in them: These can be fear and despair, but also hope and joy. The freelance artist and art therapist Anne Nissen has been working in the children's hospital for 17 years. Her work is funded by associations and foundations such as Kleine Herzen Hannover, MHHplus and KiO. The art therapist is always surprised by how different patients' outward impressions and visual language can be. "There are reserved, composed-looking children whose pictures speak of deep inner despair. Others appear ill and weak, but paint very powerful pictures in bright colors," she reports. A lot of the subconscious also flows into the works. "Feelings can often be expressed better in pictures than in words."
