"Living donation is always just plan B, which can be resorted to if there is not an offer from the Eurotransplant list quickly enough," reports Gianna Ebers, Living Donation Coordinator. In the case of a living donation, a person who is obviously close to the child in a special personal relationship donates part of their liver. "The operation is a major intervention for a healthy person. Before this happens, it must be thoroughly checked whether the person is physically and mentally able to donate," explains the trained healthcare and pediatric nurse. She coordinates the examinations for the evaluation, conducts educational talks and accompanies the families. After completing her training in 2006, she continued to train in the Nursing of organ transplanted children. In 2013, she spent three months in the Liver Unit at Birmingham Children's Hospital, where she learned about Nursing in an international center. In 2019, she trained as a transition trainer to accompany and support young patients during their transition to adult medicine. With her energy, she always manages to overcome difficulties and achieve goals for the team: With her brother, a professional cameraman, she made a video that convinced several foundations to fund the Clinical Department's play therapist position. Together with Dr. Norman Junge, she initiated the award-winning pilot project "Endoscopies in children as a day clinic intervention". She is an honorary board member of the Billy Rubin e.V. self-help association.
