A team of surgeons during an operation

OPERATING THEATRES

Three operating theaters for inpatients are permanently assigned to the Clinical Department of Trauma Surgery, and an operating theater is also regularly available for outpatient procedures.

Approximately 2,700 operations are performed each year in the three main operating theatres; and 250 operations per month in the outpatient surgery center.

The surgical procedures are performed under the direction of a senior physician or specialist.

The Nursing team consists of nurses who have completed additional training as specialist nurses for surgical service, as well as surgical technical assistants (OTAs). Together with the staff of the plastic, hand and reconstructive surgery department, they form a nursing unit.

Nursing students are regularly deployed and instructed as part of their training. A wide variety of duty models offer a very good mix of leisure and working life.

Thanks to the rescue helicopter "Christoph 4" stationed at the MHH, we are specialized in the treatment of polytraumatized patients.

The profession of surgical nurse requires three years of basic nursing training with a state-recognized examination. In order to increase professional competence, it is possible at the MHH to complete a two-year specialist training course in surgical and endoscopic Nursing with state recognition.

Since 2007, Hannover Medical School has offered training as a surgical assistant, which takes place directly in the operating theater without a previous nursing exam.
