Sven Schwabe has been working at the Institute ofGeneral Medicine and Palliative Medicine since September 2019. He works there as a research assistant and has been leading the Innovation Fund-supported research project HOPAN, on regional hospice and palliative care networks in Germany, since 2023. In addition, he leads the research projects ASEP - Assisted Suicide in Germany - Exploring Practice (funded by the German Research Foundation) and SURVIVOR (funded by the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Lower Saxony, Claudia von Schilling Center).

Mr. Schwabe studied sociology and political science at the Universities of Osnabrück and Jena from 2006 to 2012. He then completed his doctorate at the interdisciplinary research training group "Age(ing) as a cultural concept and social practice" at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf from 2012 to 2015. His dissertation is entitled: "Age in responsibility? Political engagement in retirement."

From 2015 to 2019, Mr. Schwabe was employed (with interruptions) at the Clinical Department for Palliative Medicine at the University Hospital Bonn, where he led a research project on the transition from curative to palliative treatment, among other things. From 2016 to 2022, he also worked as a consultant at the state support center for hospice work and palliative care in Lower Saxony.

Since November 2022, Sven Schwabe has been the spokesperson for the Lower Saxony/Bremen state representation of the German Society for Palliative Medicine (DGP).
