Panel discussion: Doctor-patient communication in cancer medicine
For PJ students, students between the 5th and 12th semester, those affected and interested parties
Medical students take part in various communication modules during the course of their studies. However, it is often more difficult for medical professionals and patients to "find each other" in conversation in practice than in the training modules. Yet effective Communications is crucial for the healthcare of those affected. It can alleviate anxiety and promote the healing process and quality of life. Our new communication seminar for the field of oncology aimed at students of Human medicine offers support.
The seminar, in cooperation with partners of the CCC Lower Saxony, focuses on Communications between physicians and patients. Its main purpose is to promote communication skills for the upcoming Practical Year (PJ) and medical career.

Information on the event
The offer is primarily aimed at PJ students who start their practical year on 20.05.2024. However, all other students between the 5th and 12th semester are also welcome, as well as those affected by cancer and anyone interested.
The panel discussion is intended to give students the opportunity to interact directly with cancer patients. Experience reports from those affected by the diagnosis will be shared and discussed. The focus will be on what was good or not good from the patient's point of view and what they would have specifically wished for.
Agenda
- Welcoming words
- Testimonials from those affected by cancer diagnosis notification
- Moderated discussion
How can Communications succeed...
...when patients are shocked by a cancer diagnosis?
... when physicians are under time pressure and have to reconcile professionalism and care in their day-to-day work?
How can physician-patient communication succeed when everyone has different expectations?
This is exactly what we would like to discuss with you in a panel discussion.
