Did you know that?
Around 40 percent of all cancers are preventable through a healthy lifestyle - this includes in particular not smoking, little or no alcohol, a normal body weight and plenty of exercise. However, this does not mean that cancer patients have brought their disease on themselves. Random genetic errors in cell division can also lead to cancer. These occur more frequently with increasing age. They cannot always be corrected by the body's own repair system.
Cancer can also be caused by a hereditary risk . It is not the cancer itself that is inherited, but a predisposition to cancer. Experts estimate that around 5 to 10 out of 100 cancers are caused by a single hereditary predisposition.
