World Cancer Day 2022

Together against cancer. You are not alone.

This year, under the motto "Together against cancer" - "You are not alone" , we are working with the University Cancer Center Göttingen as the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) of Lower Saxony to draw attention to support services for cancer patients.

In addition to medical care, counseling and therapy support services are of particular importance. The diagnosis of cancer often arrives completely unexpectedly and turns everything upside down from one day to the next. After the diagnosis, many questions arise and there is a desire for information. Where can I find help? What can I do myself to contribute to the course of the disease and treatment? How do I or my partner deal with the psychological stress?

At the CCC Hannover of the MHH, we attach particular importance to the holistic care of our patients and their families. To this end, a large number of specialized professional groups work hand-in-hand under one roof. At the same time, we work together with various self-help groups. To mark World Cancer Day, some of our employees got together for a photo campaign. With their services, they support, advise and accompany cancer patients and their relatives on their journey through the disease and afterwards.

Klaus Bahlsen Center for Integrative Oncology

The Klaus Bahlsen Center for Integrative Oncology was established at the MHH in January 2022 to strengthen the holistic treatment of cancer patients at the site. The center brings together the existing activities of the Departments of Complementary Medicine, Palliative Medicine, Psychooncology, Sports and Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutritional Medicine and Nursing at MHH. In addition to the further development of care services, the new center aims to intensify the scientific evaluation of integrative oncology and, in particular, to include patient participation in clinical research.

Many cancer patients ask themselves what they can do themselves to contribute to a positive course of the disease and treatment. Complementary medicine methods can provide valuable support during and after tumor therapy in order to alleviate side effects and late effects of tumor therapy and improve quality of life. These include naturopathic consultations, offers to strengthen self-healing powers, relaxation methods and complementary nursing applications. The Klaus Bahlsen Center supplements oncological complementary medicine with psycho-oncological support services, symptom-oriented palliative medical treatment concepts, nutritional advice as well as sports and rehabilitative medical approaches.
