The Center for Personalized Medicine (ZPM) Hannover complements the cutting-edge oncological medicine at the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) of the MHH. Personalized medicine refers to a treatment approach in which a therapy is optimally tailored to the individual characteristics of the patient. In order to provide patients with access to innovative and individualized treatment concepts, experts from all areas of oncological research and care work together on an interdisciplinary basis at the ZPM Hannover. Annual certification ensures that all processes at the ZPM follow controlled and standardized quality criteria. This enables us to offer you molecular diagnostics and personalized therapy recommendations at the highest scientific level.
The ZPM Hannover is part of the German Network for Personalized Medicine (DNPM). The DNPM is a cooperation of 21 locations in Germany that have dedicated themselves to the mission of improving the medical care and quality of life of cancer patients with personalized cancer medicine through networking and harmonization. The aim is to provide all patients in Germany with easy access to the personalized cancer medicine approach.
Personalized medicine refers to a treatment approach in which a therapy is optimally tailored to the individual characteristics of the patient. In oncology, most cancers can now be treated effectively with standard therapies according to the so-called guidelines, but it is now also known that not all cancers are the same. Rather, complex and individual molecular characteristics of cancer cells are responsible, for example, for tumors growing at different rates or responding differently to therapies. Patients with advanced or rare cancers, in particular, may therefore find that guideline-based treatments are unsuccessful or lacking. In these cases, a detailed examination of the tumour using modern molecular and imaging analysis methods can help to identify the individual characteristics of the tumour and the person affected and to find a targeted, personalized therapy that is tailored to the patient's disease.
Your attending physician is best placed to assess whether the use of personalized medicine is sensible and helpful in your individual case. Ask your treating oncologist to check the option of a molecular analysis via a ZPM. Your oncologist will then register you with the ZPM. You do not have to travel far for this diagnosis, as only data/physician's letters need to be sent to the ZPM. You can usually continue your therapy at your local Clinical Department or oncology specialist practice. If you or your physician have any further questions, you can also contact mtb-ccc@mh-hannover.de directly.
