About Us

Through the Forensic Child Protection Clinic, the Department of Forensic Medicine at Hannover Medical School and its branch in Oldenburg—located on the institutes’ premises—provide central contact points with dedicated, competent staff to offer free consultation and support to physicians in private practice, clinically active physicians, and physicians employed in public health services free consultation and support in cases of suspected child maltreatment and abuse, and to facilitate rapid, evidence-preserving, and admissible documentation, assessment, and interpretation of injuries and the collection of evidence. The examination takes place following a telephone appointment and an informal written request in a calm, child-friendly atmosphere, conducted by qualified physicians and, if necessary, with the support and accompaniment of a social worker (B.A.) and a child protection specialist with relevant experience. The examination results, as well as any recommendations for further measures, are communicated to the physician in a brief written report.
