Anti-science sentiment and hate speech directed at researchers, science communicators, and research institutions have noticeably increased, not least due to the coronavirus pandemic. But how can researchers and science communicators respond to such attacks, prepare for them, and find support? This workshop offers insights into the topic, presents advice and support services from the national contact point Scicomm-Support, creates space for personal exchange, and provides practical tools through a group exercise. Further information on Scicomm-Support can be found online: www.scicomm-support.de.

This three-hour online workshop is designed for (international) early-career researchers (in the clinical field) who want to navigate the academic landscape and advance their career development. Participants will gain insights into the structure of the German higher education system, including the key career stages and the prerequisites for success at each level. The event addresses gender-specific and intersectional dynamics in academia, with a focus on how social and ethnic backgrounds shape experiences and opportunities. Through guided reflection, participants will identify their own strengths and resources as (international) early-career researchers and develop strategies to overcome gender-based inequalities and intersectional challenges on their professional paths. In addition, the workshop creates a collaboratively designed safe space where participants can network, share experiences, and build supportive networks to succeed in their academic careers.
Dr. Glaser’s two workshops are most effective when taken together, but can also be attended individually.
The Trainer
Dr. Phuong Glaser is a certified coach and trainer specializing in career development, mentoring, and mindful communication. With a solid academic foundation in linguistics (PhD) as well as advanced training in applied psychology (Cologne) and compassion research (Stanford), she integrates evidence-based methods from various disciplines into her work. After transitioning from academia and research, she supported international and German researchers with professional development at the University of Cologne. Today, Phuong collaborates with universities and research institutions throughout Germany to support researchers with career transitions, intercultural dynamics, and professional development.
