Research

The Hospital Hygiene Division deals scientifically with hospital hygiene issues:

  • Investigations into hand hygiene compliance and nosocomial infections
  • Detection of transmissible infectious agents and prevention of their spread
  • Prevention and management of cluster events with infectious pathogens
  • Development of methods for the systematic management of pathogen-specific data and their embedding in patient care

To this end, microbiological and virological findings are systematically processed in close cooperation within the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene and the Institute of Virology. Together with the various clinics, clinical departments and further disciplines at Hannover Medical School, these pathogen-specific findings are evaluated in conjunction with patient-related data. On this basis, concepts for effective infection prevention in patient care are developed. The Hospital Hygiene Division is also a cooperation partner in national projects for the detection and prevention of nosocomial infections. Regular participation in national and international scientific congresses as well as the publication of scientific papers demonstrate the scope of our research work in the field of hospital hygiene.
