ZSE Specialist Center for Cancer Predisposition

Many cancers are caused by external influences such as radiation or nicotine consumption. They also generally affect older patients. However, around 5-10% of all people with cancer have a hereditary cancer risk. This so-called cancer predisposition is actually the most common known cause of malignant diseases in children and adolescents.

At Hannover Medical School, the Institute of Human Genetics (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Brigitte Schlegelberger) and the Clinical Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (Director: Prof. Dr. med. Christian Kratz) focus on advising and caring for people with cancer predisposition syndromes.

Through close cooperation between the two centers and with various other Clinical Departments and Institutes of the MHH, modern examination methods and special consultation hours, we want to provide holistic care and be a competent point of contact for those affected, from diagnosis to consultation and therapy.
