The first "Patients' Café" at the MHH Transplant Centre was a complete success: 30 guests accepted the invitation to exchange ideas among patients on May 8, 2025. In the relaxed atmosphere of the MHH bistro, information was provided and lively discussions took place for two hours over coffee and other drinks, cake and snacks. The next event is already in preparation; the patient café will take place three times a year.

The event was organized by the Patient Advisory Board of the MHH Transplant Centre, which has been committed to the interests of patients at the MHH who are waiting for an organ transplant or have already received a donor organ for five years. The members of the Patient Advisory Board are themselves affected or are relatives of transplant recipients.

"It is very important to us to meet other patients, to get to know them and their questions and problems and to regularly offer a platform for informal discussions," said Patrick Kaul, spokesperson for the Patient Advisory Board, in his welcoming address. The patient café also always focuses on a presentation by a transplant expert from MHH, who then answers questions from the audience.

Nursing specialist Jana Heise kicked off the event with the topic "Hygiene measures for transplant patients". What can I eat? What should I bear in mind when doing my laundry? Should I get rid of my potted flowers? The qualified "Advanced Practice Nurse", who cares for lung transplant patients on the ward and prepares them for their return to everyday life, gave valuable tips and advice.

The next event will take place in September. Information will be available soon on the Transplant Centre and Patient Advisory Board website.
