Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Nursing on Ward 10 is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School. It is planned, carried out and evaluated in a patient-oriented manner, taking into account the psychosocial situation. We are responsible for a certain number of patients as part of the nursing care provided by the department.
Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses (some with additional qualifications such as specialist further training in nephrology and dialysis or practice supervisors). Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources department. New colleagues are introduced to their new tasks in accordance with an induction guideline developed by our ward, which guarantees our patients a high standard of safety and care.
Our team ensures the continuous care of our patients on the normal and intensive care wards through a three-shift system and on-call duty.
We offer work shadowing for healthcare and nursing staff from other areas as well as nursing internships for paramedics from the fire department and medical students. Please register with the Nursing management.
We care for all patients with acute and chronic kidney failure who are hospitalized at the MHH.
All patients who are mobile and able to leave the normal ward are treated and cared for on ward 10 (acute dialysis). We have 11 treatment places in single, double and triple rooms available for this purpose.
We use the following therapy methods for blood purification:
Hemodialysis and hemodiafiltration
- classic blood washing on various types of equipment for patients with acute or chronic kidney failure. Around 4000 hemodialysis procedures are performed on ward 10 each year.
Peritoneal dialysis
- CAPD and mechanical peritoneal dialysis for patients with chronic kidney failure. These are cared for by a specially trained nursing team with its own on-call service on the MHH wards. We carry out around 1,000 peritoneal dialyses every year.
Plasma exchange and immunoadsorption
- Special procedures to remove harmful antibodies or other substances from the blood, e.g. for neurological diseases, transplant rejection or in preparation for a transplant. We also have various types of equipment available for this purpose, which are used in different ways depending on the indication. We carry out around 1200 plasma exchange and 250 immunoadsorption treatments per year.
Vascular accesses for the above-mentioned procedures and the necessary ultrasound examinations can also be carried out in our procedure room.
In addition to our patients on the normal wards, who come to us on the ward for the duration of their blood washing, we also care for patients with kidney failure on all intensive care units at the MHH and offer both intermittent and continuous dialysis procedures on site. In total, more than 6,000 dialysis treatments are carried out annually for our critically ill patients in the intensive care units.
During treatment on ward 10 (acute dialysis), patients have the opportunity to watch television or surf the Internet via WLAN. You are welcome to bring your mobile devices with you.
Regular meals are usually delivered to ward 10 (acute dialysis). Coffee, tea or mineral water is available to our patients at all times.
Visits during treatments on ward 10 (acute dialysis) are generally possible. However, we would ask you to register your visit with us in advance.
We are grateful if chronic dialysis patients bring a dialysis accompanying letter with them to the inpatient admission and to their first treatment on our ward.
