Outpatient patient care
In addition to outpatient care in the field of physical and rehabilitative medicine (PMR), the Clinical Department for Rehabilitation Medicine at the MHH offers a comprehensive range of therapies - especially for patients with chronic pain symptoms in the musculoskeletal system.
First, an electronic assessment is followed by a targeted patient consultation and a detailed medical examination by specialized physicians. Existing examination findings and imaging procedures such as X-rays or the results of MRI scans can also be included in the problem analysis and treatment planning.
The rehabilitation plan is determined together with the patient and the goals are agreed individually. A corresponding prescription will be issued for the planned therapy applications. Any necessary medication and aids can also be prescribed.
The optional therapy measures are carried out by highly qualified therapists. There is close interprofessional cooperation and lively professional exchange between physicians and therapists.
Rehabilitative treatment can be carried out after hospital stays, inpatient or full-time outpatient rehabilitation or as a supplement to previous outpatient therapy.
Outpatient services can be carried out for all statutory and private health insurance companies - but not at the expense of pension insurance.

Physiotherapy serves to restore, maintain and promote health. The aim is to achieve the best possible social participation. The indication area includes all diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Interdisciplinary cooperation has become a matter of course for us. Treatment is carried out after a detailed, standardized assessment and the joint definition of therapy goals and measures.
Special focus areas are

Within the therapy, the physiotherapists use a wide range of passive, assistive and active therapy methods, such as medical training therapy (MTT) and manual therapy (MT).
Various physiotherapy concepts form the basis of treatment here:
- Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation
- Developmental neurological treatment according to Bobath or Vojta
- Manual therapy according to Kaltenborn-Evjent, Maitland or Cyriax

Special offers also take place in the exercise pool (lifting pool) and on our therapy climbing wall.
Since the end of 2020, we have also been participating in the extended outpatient physiotherapy (EAP) for patients of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV).
In our outpatient clinic, we focus on treating patients with complex disorders such as diseases of the nervous system, prenatal, perinatal and postnatal damage to the central nervous system, as well as diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
Occupational therapy supports and accompanies people of all ages who are restricted in their ability to act or are at risk of being restricted. The aim is to strengthen them in carrying out meaningful activities in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure in their personal environment.
Here, specific activities, environmental adaptation and counseling serve to enable people to act in everyday life, participate in society and improve their quality of life (see DVE 08/2007).
The following neurophysiological treatment methods and treatment concepts are used in outpatient treatment:
- Bobath
- Brain performance training
- Affolter
- HoDT (action-oriented diagnostics and therapy)
- AOT (everyday-oriented therapy)
- Perfetti
- Sensitivity training / desensitization for hypersensitivity
- Fine motor skills training
- Load training
- Joint protection training
- Individual occupational therapy splint fitting/treatment of the hand
- ADL training (activities of daily life)

In order to ensure that the occupational therapy intervention is relevant to everyday life, we have a therapy kitchen, a therapy workshop and an exercise bath in addition to the functional treatment rooms.
A wide range of therapeutic measures are available in the field of physical therapy:
- CO2 baths for burns and wound care
- Kerosene baths for scleroderma patients
- Heat packs
- Manual lymphatic drainage
- Electrotherapy and ultrasound therapy
- The measures are used as part of complex therapy concepts and serve to improve bodily functions and alleviate symptoms (e.g. pain reduction, promotion of wound healing, muscle regeneration and strengthening).
They can also contribute to the equalization of vegetative regulation (e.g. for fatigue syndromes, sleep disorders and chronic pain).
