Returning to work after breast cancer
General information
The multicenter project investigates the success of the professional reintegration of breast cancer patients following primary therapy. It asks under what conditions and with what assistance working women return to work or choose a different path following breast cancer surgery. The assistance selected includes (1) advice from the social services in ten breast centers in the Hannover region, (2) measures to promote participation in accordance with §26 and §33 SGB IX, (3) gradual reintegration and (4) occupational integration management.
The study is based on a survey of selected stakeholders - breast cancer patients, employers and employees of social services - and aims to gain a comprehensive insight into the process of returning to work for women who have undergone breast cancer surgery. Through the direct inclusion of different perspectives, the needs, limitations and ambitions of the women concerned and of employers are to be recognized and used in the best possible way for the further improvement of professional integration. Recommendations for facilitating the professional reintegration of breast cancer patients will be developed.
