Research

The MHH Transplant Centre can look back on more than 15,000 organ transplants since 1968 and on numerous innovative developments that are now standard in transplant medicine. The MHH focus on "Transplantation Research and Regenerative Medicine" has received unprecedented research funding over decades, in cooperation with regional, national and international research partners.

Transplantation research at the MHH has been restructured in recent years. From 2008-2018, the BMBF-funded Integrated Research and Treatment Center for Transplantation (IFB-Tx) created interdisciplinary center structures and strengthened interdisciplinary research. The Transplant Centre comprises 18 Clinical Departments and 16 Institutes as well as central core facilities and committees, including a Scientific Advisory Board. One scientific and clinical focus is on forms of organ replacement (apparative, cellular, solid organs) and secondary prevention after transplantation - from basic research to healthcare research.

With the support of the IFB-Tx follow-up funding (2018-2023) from the MWK Lower Saxony, activities are currently being bundled in a Center for Organ Regeneration and Replacement (CORE 100). The aim is a 100% follow-up of all OTx360° patients, following on from the REBIRTH Cluster of Excellence and the MHH Innovation Fund project NTx360°. The scientific basis for lifelong aftercare in conjunction with secondary prevention is also the MHH cooperation with the German Pension Insurance (DRV).
