About us
The Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Claudia von Schilling-Zentrum is the competence network for the interdisciplinary, holistic treatment of cancer at the MHH. All Clinical Departments and Institutes involved in oncological diagnostics and therapy work closely together under the umbrella of the certified Cancer Center within the CCC. An individual treatment concept is drawn up for each patient in interdisciplinary tumor conferences in order to achieve the best possible therapeutic outcome. Patients find access to new, innovative cancer therapies through clinical studies. A large number of specialized consultation hours and outpatient clinics serve as a central point of contact. Patients outside the MHH can obtain a second opinion from us. All cancers are treated at the MHH. Researchers in cancer medicine will find various support options and service platforms at the CCC in order to be able to implement high-ranking and internationally competitive projects.
In 2019, Hannover Medical School founded the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Hannover as a consistent further development of its previous oncological activities in patient care and research. Important foundations were:
- many pioneering oncology projects since the Tumor Center Hannover was founded in 1978,
- the profile-forming importance of outpatient and inpatient care in cancer medicine with a high proportion of care and supra-regional significance
- an efficient research infrastructure with internationally visible results and their rapid transfer to the care of cancer patients,
- as well as the establishment of numerous organ cancer centers certified according to the criteria of the German Cancer Society (DKG) since 2006 and the Oncology Center in 2016.
The CCC sees itself as an active partner in the implementation of the National Cancer Plan (2008) and has already made important contributions to improving quality-assured patient care in cancer medicine. The CCC Hannover (Claudia von Schilling Center) has founded the Comprehensive Cancer Center Niedersachsen (CCC-N) together with the University Cancer Center Göttingen (G-CCC) in order to consistently pursue this idea for the entire state of Lower Saxony and the neighboring regions.
At the beginning of 2021, the CCC-N was named an Oncology Center of Excellence by German Cancer Aid. This makes it one of 15 top oncology centers in Germany. We undergo an international assessment every four years.
- Comprehensive assurance of multidisciplinary, quality-assured patient treatment in cancer medicine, including integrative care concepts
- Networking of oncology service providers in Lower Saxony's most populous region for the benefit of patients
- Fastest possible access to innovations in cancer medicine for those affected
- Intensive further development of patient participation in the development of care services and clinical research
- Broad and high-quality oncology education, training and continuing education programs for all medical professional groups and young scientists
- Research collaborations to strengthen existing focus areas and provide special support for clinical and transnational research
The term "Comprehensive Cancer Center" comes from the USA and was adopted by top oncology centers. The English word "comprehensive" means "comprehensive" and "Cancer Center" means "cancer center".
A Comprehensive Cancer Center stands for an oncology center with comprehensive research activities, broad educational offerings for all target groups involved and intensive inclusion of patient perspectives in all aspects of cancer medicine. At a CCC, oncological patient care is interdisciplinary and multi-professional. This means that many different departments work hand in hand. Through translational research work, a CCC offers patients treatment at the highest level and according to the latest scientific findings. The latest diagnostic and therapeutic approaches are transferred into clinical practice as quickly as possible.
