Reducing obesity and lowering the risk of cancer
The CCC Hannover supports the National Cancer Prevention Week and emphasizes the importance of regular exercise
"Reduce obesity - reduce cancer risk" is the motto of this year's National Cancer Prevention Week from September 25 to 29, 2023. Experts estimate that around 40 percent of all cancers could be prevented through a healthy lifestyle. This also includes a normal body weight. A balanced diet and regular exercise form the basis for this.
"Regular exercise keeps you fit and healthy," says Prof. Dr. Uwe Tegtbur, Head of the Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Clinical Department at Hannover Medical School (MHH). "Regular physical activity not only reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, but also the risk of cancer. For example, chronic inflammation and oxidative stress, which increase the risk of a variety of cancers, are reduced," explains the sports physician. But how much exercise should we get? The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of intensive physical activity per week, or a mixture of both.
Stay fit wherever you are - without much effort
The MHH sports medicine team offers inspiration for exercise and sports exercises. They have produced training videos on a wide range of issues and objectives. Whether at home, in the office, in nature or exercise games for children. There is something for every age and fitness level. Anyone can take part in the videos.
The training videos for more exercise from the Department of Sports Medicine at the MHH are an initiative by Prof. Dr. Haverich and Prof. Dr. Tegtbur from the Cluster of Excellence REBIRTH at the MHH. One of the reasons for shooting the videos was the time of the coronavirus pandemic, when gyms were closed. All exercises are therefore ideal for training at home.
