The research activities of the Clinical Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the fields of

is aimed at continuously improving the treatment of our patients.
The quality of a treatment result can be checked using measurable criteria. Among other things, the following can be measured

  • whether an implant has been positioned correctly,
  • the extent to which a bone replacement material has grown through with tissue or
  • whether a tumor has been completely removed.

We also deal with the question of whether the selected treatment strategies lead to an improvement in the success of the treatment. In the case of implants, this can be assessed using criteria such as symmetry or malpositioning.

We also investigate which factors influence the success of treatment. In the case of serious diseases that require far-reaching surgical interventions (e.g. tumor diseases), it is not sufficient to look only at the measurable variables mentioned above. Instead, we look at the patient as a whole and the effects of the various treatments on the quality of life after treatment and on their physical and psychological well-being.
In addition, studies are also conducted with a view to improving the early detection of tumor diseases, as this generally facilitates treatment and thus contributes to a better treatment outcome.
Taken together, the various studies result in an improved ability to assess which treatment strategies lead to the best possible treatment success and how the individual options affect the patient's quality of life.

Your cooperation as a participant in the various studies will enable us to test different treatment strategies and develop new strategies.
