ZSE-B Center for Amyloidosis

Amyloidosis is a rare disease in which the structure of certain protein molecules is misfolded. These misfolded protein molecules are difficult to dissolve and are deposited in various organs, e.g. in the heart, kidneys and peripheral nervous system. This causes the affected organs to malfunction as the disease progresses. The organ distribution and severity of amyloidosis depends on the particular subtype of amyloidosis. For targeted therapy, it is important to identify the causative protein molecule and the corresponding amyloidosis subtype.

At the beginning of the disease, the symptoms of amyloidosis are often less pronounced, atypical and variable, so that the diagnosis is often delayed and the presence of an advanced stage of the disease is not uncommon.
The Amyloidosis Center Lower Saxony enables patients with this rare disease to be diagnosed, cared for and treated at one location. Thanks to close interdisciplinary cooperation, an individual and rapid treatment decision can be made and implemented.
