If you don't have a Hobsy card yet, please complete the online registration first. You can then register at the lending desk by presenting your identity card (alternatively: passport and a registration certificate from the residents’ registration office / Meldebescheinigung des Einwohnermelde- oder Bürgeramtes). The library card will be issued to you there for a one-off fee of 5 euros.

If you already have a Hobsy card and are already registered with an academic library, you only need to have your card activated at the lending desk.

HOBSY is a network of academic libraries and the Hanover City Library with the aim of improving the supply of literature in Hanover and making it easier to use the libraries. One step in this direction is the uniform usage card, with which you can use all libraries connected to the system. Many HOBSY libraries offer the service of returning literature across libraries. You can return your borrowed literature from these libraries to another participating library. Further information can be found here:

Can I browse the shelves for topics myself?

Everyone is allowed to use our reading rooms and PC rooms. You are welcome to search for literature yourself or simply speak to our staff at the information desk. The contact details can be found under "Contact" at the bottom of this page.

Do I have to register online if I already have a Hobsy card?

If you got the Hobsy card from another library and have not yet been a user with us, you still need to fill out our online registration. Please come to us with your ID card so that the registration can be completed.

I study at another university in Hanover, can I use your library to learn there?

The use of our reading rooms and PC rooms is permitted for everyone.
