Welcome to the Website of the Department of Medical Psychology*
We are delighted that you have found your way to the Department of Medical Psychology at the Center for Public Health at Hannover Medical School!
Our research focuses on psychological factors that influence the prevention, treatment and management of predominantly physical illnesses in patients. This also includes approaches to promote professional compliance to prevent healthcare-acquired infections. Our work focuses on the so-called "empowerment" of patients and healthcare providers, for example through psychoeducation, training and behaviour change.
In teaching, we focus on passing on knowledge about the psychological foundations of medicine and communication skills for physician-patient communication and to second-year medical students. We also teach psychology in the Master's programme Public Health - Population and Professions.
Finally, the MHH's Simulated Patients Programme (SPP-MHH) is hosted by us, which primarily refers simulation patients for MHH study programs. If you are interested in making yourself available as a simulated patient to students in simulated ("acted") communication or examination situations to practice practical skills, please feel free to contact us (by telephone see below or mhh.de/simulationspatienten).
