Information on the ward
Welcome to our website
Our Nursing is based on the MHH mission statement and the nursing concept of Hannover Medical School. It is planned, carried out and evaluated in a patient-oriented manner, taking into account the psychosocial situation. We are responsible for a certain number of patients within the scope of nursing care.
Accommodation is provided in single, double and multi-bed rooms, which are equipped with their own bathroom. The ward also has a patient lounge with a television and fridge. This room is also used for one-to-one consultations. A separate examination room is available for admission examinations.
Our nursing team consists of full-time and part-time registered nurses (some with additional qualifications such as practice supervisors, pain nurses, specialist training for oncological care and palliative care). Participation in internal and external training courses is an integral part of our Human Resources. In addition, an internet portal is used for independent e-learning. New colleagues are introduced to their new tasks according to an induction guideline developed by our ward, which ensures a high standard of safety and care for our patients.
We guarantee continuous care by working in a three-shift system in order to restore the well-being and health of our patients through interdisciplinary cooperation.
In addition to the registered nurses, participants in the specialist oncology training program, healthcare and nursing trainees and interns work on the ward. They are assigned fixed reference persons as mentors and are supported and deployed depending on their qualifications. Practical training is particularly important to us. The nursing team is supported by ward assistants who are responsible for serving meals, preparing patients' rooms, material logistics and much more.
We work closely with the radiooncological outpatient care clinic together. This is part of the treatment team in the Clinical Department for Radiotherapy. Here, our patients and their relatives receive individual nursing advice, care and support from specialist nurses for oncological and palliative care.
The focus of our work is on Nursing patients with tumor diseases.
Our range of tasks includes needs-oriented, activating basic and treatment care. This includes providing or taking over assistance with personal hygiene, mobilization, eating and much more, as well as carrying out or supporting prophylaxis (preventive measures).
Another focus of our work is
- the care of wounds, venous catheters or drains
- carrying out intravenous chemotherapy
- the administration of medication
- taking blood samples
- taking part in diagnostic measures, e.g. lumbar puncture, taking samples, etc.
The prophylaxis and treatment of the side effects of oncological therapies are of particular importance within our field of activity.
We work together in a multi-professional team with physicians from various disciplines, psychologists, social services, physiotherapists, wound and stoma therapy, dietary advice and the nutrition team. In addition, we make use of the support provided by the voluntary hospital support service (EKH) and pastoral care.
Specialist oncology care
In the care and nursing of patients with tumors, we are guided by our concept for oncological care at the MHH.

Daily routine
We care for our patients using the ward nursing system. Each nurse is responsible for organizing their own work schedule according to the needs of the patients. Please make arrangements with the nurse responsible for you. The ward physicians' rounds take place in the mornings. Once a week, the head physician makes a ward round.
Eating and drinking
Meals are delivered in a tray system. You have the option of choosing your meal from various menus. You can determine your portion sizes and make additional requests. Let the ward assistants or nurses know your wishes. Hot and cold drinks are available on the ward and accessible at all times.
Meals brought by your relatives can be heated in the ward kitchen. A small amount of your own food and drinks can be cooled. For reasons of hygiene, patients and relatives are not permitted to enter the kitchen.
Patient rooms
Each bed is equipped with a telephone and a safe. Each room has a television and WLAN for your own computer. Both are free of charge. Cell phone use is permitted on our ward.
You will need the so-called Hi-Med card to use it. You can obtain the card by paying a deposit at a machine in the shopping street.
For medical and/or nursing reasons, you may have to change rooms during your stay. However, we try to avoid this as far as possible.
Accommodation for relatives
In principle, it is possible to accommodate relatives in the MHH. However, capacity is very limited. There are also various hotels in the surrounding area. Further information on accommodation for accompanying persons can be found in the patient portal.
In exceptional cases, an accompanying person may be admitted to the ward. This will be decided by the attending physician.
