School profile - General information
Our state school at the MHH School Center was founded back in 1980. We accept 12 new trainees every year in October. Our team currently consists of the principal, the clinical and scientific advisor, the secretary and 9 teaching logopaedists. Two psychologists are employed at the Center for Health Professions to teach psychology and provide counseling. In addition to the full-time teaching staff, lecturers from the MHH and external lecturers teach medical, linguistic, pedagogical and psychological subjects.
We offer information evenings on training at our school. Binding registration is required for this. You can find the current dates in the News section.
We are the people to contact if you have problems with speech, language, voice or swallowing. If you or a member of your family has questions or needs treatment, we offer competent diagnostics, advice and therapy directly at the School for Speech Therapy in Hanover Buchholz.
Teaching:
We offer competence-oriented and modularized teaching with the aim of creating self-reflective therapists who are interested in learning. Our theoretical training is broadly based, scientifically sound and oriented towards the therapeutic and related sciences. The primary practical training takes place on site, is supervised in small groups by teaching therapists with appropriate qualifications and follows an established and proven concept. Both theoretical and practical training benefit from the connection to the Clinical Department and an excellent infrastructure. We offer a pleasant learning atmosphere, a good supervision ratio and a training allowance.
The training is based on the LogAPrO and current requirements for undergraduate speech therapy/logopaedic study programmes and is divided into the following blocks:
Each semester consists of 4-5 modules, for which between 5 and 13 credit points (CP) are awarded. One credit point corresponds to a workload of 30 hours, of which between 70-50% is usually spent on classroom teaching. This means that you have to invest a total of approx. 900 hours of work per semester, which is usually 40 hours per week. The LogAPro teaching figures are implemented accordingly with 1740 hours of theoretical and 2100 hours of practical teaching. In each module, there are proofs of achievement or examinations (e.g. written exams, oral exams, treatment samples) that you take.
Practical events are planned right from the start, which take up the respective semester-specific content (e.g. participatory therapy planning, EBP in therapy, interdisciplinary therapy planning). A total of 60 CP are planned for the practical training, which corresponds to 30% of the possible 180 CP. The basics from the related sciences (e.g. medicine, linguistics) are integrated into the speech therapy-specific modules from semester 5 onwards:
- Semester 5: M19 and M20
- Semester 6: M23 and M24
Prevention & Therapy
Our school offers therapies in all areas of speech therapy. We also offer preventative and supportive projects such as
- Voice training for employees of the MHH
- Würzburg training program to improve phonological awareness in children
- Information events on child speech development, speech disorders and support measures for educators and parents
- Self-help group for people who stutter
Further development & networking
In the context of teaching, existing and new speech therapist concepts are (further) developed in terms of diagnostics, therapy, counseling and prevention.
We are in close contact with colleagues from different professional groups both within the MHH and nationwide.
Our school is a cooperation partner of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts HAWK Hildesheim / Holzminden / Göttingen for the Bachelor's postgraduate course in speech therapy.
General conditions
We offer individual support for trainees, as we are a relatively "small" school with an optimal ratio of teaching logopaedists to trainees. In addition, there are two psychologists in the classroom and one as an advisor.
Quality assurance
Regular evaluations of teaching and practical training take place as quality assurance measures. Teaching speech therapists take part in methodological-didactic and subject-specific further training in accordance with the guidelines of the dbl certificate (certificate for teaching speech therapists from the German Federal Association for Speech Therapy).
As a School for Speech Therapy at the MHH, we are certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001.
Extracurricular activities
Outside the classroom, there are also regular joint activities for trainees and teaching logopaedists, such as school trips and parties.
In addition, the Medical School offers the opportunity to participate in the choir, orchestra and university sports.
Infrastructure
Accommodation is available in the MHH dormitory.
Our trainees can use the MHH company subscription and thus have the opportunity to travel by bus and train on the Hannover public transport network (GVH) at a reduced rate.
Hannover as the state capital is certainly another plus point due to its convenient location (transport connections) and its many leisure activities.
