Transplant Care Initiative
Transplantation medicine is a focus of care at Hannover Medical School (MHH). Between 300 and 400 patients receive a donor organ every year. They are cared for before, during and after transplantation by highly qualified nursing staff in the Clinical Departments involved in transplantation.
The nursing care of chronically ill patients suffering from various underlying diseases is demanding and requires interdisciplinary cooperation as well as a high level of expertise and clear work processes (Standard Operating Procedures - SOPs). In summer 2021, the transplant care initiative was launched, which is based on the MHH's oncology care concept, among other things. The aim is to ensure optimal care for transplant patients in all Clinical Departments at MHH.
Four sections of the newly founded Transplant Nursing Initiative are working on the topics of patient education, specialist training, psychological care and public relations.
