About the work of our intensive care unit 67

We treat around 1,200 children of all ages and adults with congenital heart defects (EMAH patients) every year. Our medical and nursing team works in close cooperation with colleagues from all specialist disciplines, in particular those from premature infant intensive care, adult cardiology and all surgical disciplines (pediatric surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, trauma surgery, transplant surgery, plastic surgery, etc.).

The focus is on the treatment of children with congenital heart defects, the treatment of organ failure, the preparation, implementation and follow-up care of organ transplants (heart, lung, liver and kidney), the care of children after serious pediatric and neurosurgical interventions as well as the care of children with life-threatening illnesses or accidents. Due to our focus, we treat children from all over Germany.

The well-being of each individual patient and their family is what drives us and is the focus of our efforts. 24 hours a day - 365 days a year. And despite all the technology that modern intensive care medicine requires, our top priorities are humanity, empathy and respect in our dealings with each other.

Intensive medicine & humanity

"As the largest intensive care unit with complex pediatric and adult patients, we are trained to provide the best possible treatment for our patients - at all times. Training and cooperative collaboration form the cornerstone of our work - at all levels: Working together on the ward or in the Pediatric Intensive Care Network between the participating Clinical Departments."

Dr. Michael Sasse
Senior Consultant Intensive Care Unit 67

Optimal medical & nursing care

"We are available for you around the clock and attach great importance to open and honest discussions. Both physicians and nursing staff work in a three-shift system. This means that there are at least two experienced physicians on the ward and a senior physician on call at all times of the day and night. Nursing staff trained in intensive care medicine are present around the clock. This enables us to provide our patients with continuous care at the highest level."
