Inpatient care

The palliative care unit cares for patients who require support from a specialized and multi-professional team due to their particularly complex medical and psychosocial situation. In particular, patients from the MHH's normal and intensive care wards can be admitted, but also patients who can no longer be adequately cared for at home, in care facilities or in other hospitals. The urgency of an inpatient admission is decided by the medical management of the palliative care unit.

If you have any questions about admission to the palliative care unit, please call the following telephone numbers:

  • +49 511 532-9415
  • +49 511 532-9414

Admission to the palliative care unit is subject to certain defined admission criteria. The aim of the stay is, in particular, to improve symptom control, provide psychosocial support and advice on social law issues and organize suitable further care. The stay on the palliative care ward is for short-term and temporary treatment; the aim is to subsequently discharge the patient home, to another (Nursing) Facilities or Institutions or to a hospice.

Outpatient care

The palliative care consultation is aimed at patients with chronic, incurable illnesses and their relatives. We see ourselves as a partner to general practitioners and a supplement to GP care. Our aim is to contribute to optimal patient care in close cooperation with our internal and external partners and to improve cooperation at the interfaces between inpatient and outpatient areas.

It can be useful to visit the consultation at any time during the course of an incurable oncological or other disease, including during disease-specific therapy (e.g. chemotherapy). Early contact can help to address physical, psychological and social complaints in good time and to plan further care.

Consultation hours:

  • Monday 1-5 p.m. and by appointment
