The MHH has a father representative tandem
The MHH pursues a holistic equality strategy. This includes the principle that reconciling work and family life affects fathers just as much as mothers. That is why the university has had a paternity officer since 2020. Prof. Dr. Jens Dingemann held this position alone until 2024. Since February of this year, he has shared the duties with PD Dr. Christian Sturm. The Fathers' Representatives jointly represent the interests of all fathers at MHH, regardless of whether they work or study in technology, administration, research or the Clinical Department. Both are also fathers themselves.
The core task of the Fathers' Representatives is to advise and support fathers in planning their careers, parental leave and returning to work. Currently, mothers still do most of the family work, although many fathers would like to play a more active role in childcare and family life. Equality means that all options are conceivable: the classic division of roles, both parents working full-time, both parents working part-time, but also the father managing children and the household with the mother pursuing a career. The paternity representatives would like to support these options for individual life planning and thus promote family friendliness at the university. After all, family-friendliness is always a benefit for the employer and an advantage in the competition for skilled workers.
The Fathers' Representatives see themselves as representatives of interests, "low-threshold" contacts and advisors on topics relating to "becoming and being a father".
The advisory service is open to employees and students alike. Appointments can be made by e-mail to Vaeterbeauftragter@mh-hannover.de or by telephone.
In the medium term, a fathers' network is to be established, in which experiences and information regarding the above-mentioned topics can be exchanged. The organization of father-specific events and lectures round off the portfolio, here we are open to suggestions and ideas.
A flyer "Fathers at Hannover Medical School" provides more information on the topic of fathers at MHH and the services offered by the Fathers' Representative.
