Psycho-oncological counseling
The diagnosis of "cancer", the cancer itself and the necessary medical treatment represent a drastic life event for those affected and their social environment. Psycho-oncological care at the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) of the MHH offers support in dealing with these changes and stresses, including helpful strategies for dealing with the new life situation and coping with the disease/treatment.
Mental and psychosocial problems can be discussed and possible solutions developed in confidential psycho-oncological consultations. The talks are aimed at cancer patients or their relatives. On request, joint discussions can also be held with cancer patients and their relatives.
The psycho-oncology team works closely with the physicians and Nursing. The psycho-oncology staff come on request. They are partly integrated into the ward operations. Outpatient treatment and consultations are also possible at any stage of the illness.
We also offer our psycho-oncological counseling services specifically to relatives . You have the option of attending the counseling sessions on your own or presenting yourself together with the family member suffering from cancer as part of a couple or family discussion.
You can also find our services and contact persons in our flyer.
This is how we are there for you:
In a confidential consultation with a psycho-oncologist, we offer you support in various areas:
- Crisis intervention (What can help you cope with an acute crisis?)
- Supportive psychotherapeutic interventions (inpatient and outpatient)
- Individual, couple and family counseling
- Parent training Loving parenting - despite cancer (How can you parent your child(ren) lovingly despite cancer?)
- Resource activation (Which resources help you to deal with stressful situations?)
- Relaxation and imagination techniques
- Outpatient group offers:
All offers are free of charge. We are happy to advise you in person or digitally.
Cancer patients are entitled to comprehensive and high-quality psychosocial care in all phases of their illness and treatment. However, cancer patients often lack information on how to access adequate outpatient psycho-oncological care. On the website www.psychoonkologie-niedersachsen.de you will find contact details of psychotherapists in private practice who also treat cancer patients and their relatives psychotherapeutically.
