Research
The Clinical Department of Plastic, Aesthetic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery would like to introduce students at Hannover Medical School to the exciting and extremely diverse surgical field of plastic, aesthetic, hand and reconstructive surgery. To this end, we offer lectures, block internships and PJ tertials as part of our teaching. In addition, the Clinical Department has a basic science research laboratory that deals with issues relating to regeneration and reconstruction.
Clinical Department and science?
Research is the basis for advances in clinical treatment options. The Kerstin Reimers Laboratory for Regenerative Biology deals intensively with issues relevant to plastic, aesthetic, hand and reconstructive surgery. In addition to tissue engineering (tissue cultivation in the laboratory), the mechanisms of wound healing and regeneration are being researched. In the future, larger defects could be treated using transplants grown in vitro (in the laboratory), wound healing could be improved and the formation of scars could be prevented. Another field of research is tumor biology, as our Clinical Department is often confronted with the removal of tumors and/or the restoration of body contours after such surgery.
As part of the Clinical Department of Plastic, Aesthetic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery at Hannover Medical School, the laboratory is involved in student training. In addition to regular seminars, we also offer bachelor's, master's and doctoral theses in the fields of medicine and the natural sciences.
Since the beginning of 2016, the laboratory has borne the name of its first director from 2001 to 2015, Professor Dr. rer. nat. Kerstin Reimers-Fadhlaoui (*16.01.1970 † 23.12.2015).

E-JournalThe e-journal "GMS German Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery" (GMS GPRAS) Burn and Hand Surgery covers all areas of plastic surgery and is freely accessible to physicians and laypersons.
Current clinical and experimental research results from plastic surgery are published here.
School meets science
Our scientific work is not only exciting, but also sustainable - this is the opinion of the students.
They have chosen our laboratory manager Dr. Sarah Strauß as the winner of the "I am a Scientist" competition in the field of sustainability: I'm a Scientist
