In this section you will find an overview of the necessary documents that you should have ready for your application, regardless of which MHH study or further education program you choose.

We recommend that you first read the sections Study and continuing education programs at MHH and Application for study and continuing education programs at MHH carefully. There you will find specific information on the key data of the application processes for the study programs and other programs at Hannover Medical School. You will also find links to the relevant offices if you wish to have an existing qualification or your previous work recognized.

• Proof of school-leaving certificate or university degree

To apply for a place at the MHH, you need a university entrance qualification or a Bachelor's degree. You can use the Anabin database to check whether your existing school or university degree is recognized in Germany.

• Language certificate

Please note that the language of instruction at the MHH is German and unfortunately no preparatory German courses or German examinations are held at the MHH. Only the Master's degree programs Infectious Diseases and One Health and Midwifery Science are taught in English.
General information on language certificates for studying in Germany can be found here. All applicants who have obtained their university entrance qualification or university degree abroad must submit a corresponding language certificate of category A or A+ with their application. If you already have a language certificate, please use this table to check which category it belongs to. For an internship within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, a German certificate of competence level B1 is sufficient. For the application for recognition of the license to practice medicine, physicians need proof of language skills at B2 level and also a completed specialist language test. There are various professional language courses for physicians from abroad who would like to improve their German language skills for everyday practice and clinical work. One example of this would be the professional language course - German for physicians/German for pharmacists offered by the Institute for Languages and Communications in Hanover.

• Proof of measles protection according to § 20 para. 9 sentence 4 Infection Protection Act

Please only use the form provided for this purpose. A copy of the vaccination certificate is not permitted!

• Proof of health insurance

Students at state-recognized German universities are required to have health insurance. Your health insurance company will send the insurance confirmation to the MHH if you report your upcoming enrollment there, stating the sender number: H0000695. You can find all information here.

• COVID-19 vaccination protection

From March 16, 2022, the 2G regulation will apply to the entire MHH, including all Clinical Departments and Institutes. Anyone who is not fully vaccinated will no longer be allowed to enter the MHH campus and will therefore not be allowed to attend courses. This results from § 20a of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG). Therefore, COVID-19 vaccination protection is a prerequisite for attending the MHH.

• Visa/residence permit (EU/non-EU visa)

You can check whether you need a visa to enter Germany in the list of countries requiring a visa from the Federal Foreign Office. You can find out about the exact application procedure on the website of the diplomatic mission responsible for your country of origin.
You can apply for a visa for the purpose of studying with your admission to university. The residence permit for the purpose of studying can be issued for at least one year, but for a maximum of two years. If you have not completed your studies within this period, the residence permit can be extended upon application.
