FBREK Center
Center for familial breast and ovarian cancer
Women and men who have a family history of breast and/or ovarian cancer or women who have been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer at a young age can find help at the Center for Familial Breast and Ovarian Cancer.
The services offered by our center range from interdisciplinary consultation and genetic analysis to the possibility of an intensified early detection program.
Tested quality
The Center for Familial Breast and Ovarian Cancer fulfills the quality criteria defined by the German Cancer Society and receives the award "Center for Familial Breast and Ovarian Cancer with recommendation of the German Cancer Society e.V."
For patients
The familial accumulation of breast and/or ovarian cancer or a disease at a young age can be an indication of a hereditary predisposition. However, most cancers are not hereditary.
If breast and/or ovarian cancer has occurred several times in your family, if you have been diagnosed at a young age or if you have been referred by your family physician or gynecologist, you can be examined by us. The specialists at the FBREK Center will help you to determine your individual likelihood of developing the disease. We will discuss with you the possibility of a genetic laboratory test as well as possible early detection and prevention measures. In some cases, therapeutic measures tailored specifically to your case can be initiated or adapted.
The consultation takes place in the Outpatient Center of Human Genetics at the MHH. Samples for genetic testing in our laboratory can also be taken here.

In the genetic consultation, we support you in finding out which early detection or treatment options are available for you. Exactly which measures are suitable depends on your personal situation. At the FBREK Center, we work closely with other departments and refer you on if necessary. If you or your relatives are unsettled by the diagnosis, you can discuss with your physician whether psychological support from the Clinical Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics would be helpful.
The BRCA-Netzwerk e.V. connects those affected throughout Germany. The self-help group offers detailed information, experience reports, online meetings and discussion groups.
