Intensive care at MHH. Best with YOU.
Are you looking for a challenging and meaningful role in healthcare?
In the intensive care unit at MHH, you’ll find ten highly specialized intensive care units with 150 ventilator beds, as well as dedicated colleagues who care for patients in critical situations with passion and expertise.
Every day, intensive care nurses use their skills and knowledge to care for people with the most severe, complex health issues following surgery or due to medical conditions.
We’re there when others give up.
As a comprehensive university hospital, we are—especially in the field of intensive care medicine—the last hope for some of our patients. Complex and cutting-edge therapies are used in our 10 different intensive care units, where they save lives.
Every day.
Intensive care at MHH is much more than just a job—it is a meaningful mission that demonstrates every day why your dedication matters. As a nurse, you support patients through one of the most challenging phases of their lives. You provide them with a sense of security, support them in critical moments, and thereby make a direct contribution to their well-being and health.
At the end of your shift, you often see exactly what you’ve accomplished. It’s a feeling that few professions offer.
Our hearts beat for intensive care. Working as a team. Stronger together
In intensive care, no two days are alike. There is no rigid daily routine; you actively help shape it. Your ideas are valued, and you are given the space to contribute them. You work in a strong, supportive team and set priorities for your patients together. The dedicated nursing team in the intensive care units consists of full-time and part-time staff. A high proportion of our colleagues have completed a two-year advanced training program in intensive care and anesthesia. Some nurses have additional training as respiratory therapists, wound care specialists, transplant coordinators, crisis counselors, and pain management specialists.
Colleagues from other healthcare professions are also involved in patient care. These include pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists, and speech therapists. Nursing assistants handle Logistics and supply management. The medical team consists of experienced senior physicians and ward physicians. We work closely with colleagues from other specialized departments. Together, we are committed to providing our patients with the best possible care. Nurses and physicians place great importance on good, collegial collaboration.
Our hearts beat for intensive care. Diverse, challenging, and full of possibilities
Intensive care is challenging, but that is precisely what makes it exciting and fulfilling. In intensive care, we offer nursing professionals a wide range of opportunities for growth. These include numerous specializations, continuing education and professional development as well as career advancement and development paths, e.g., in clinical instruction, advanced training to become a specialist in intensive care and anesthesia nursing, project work, or leadership.
We understand that professional nursing requires the right framework conditions, which is why we place great emphasis on good working conditions at MHH. Staffing levels are based on actual nursing needs, so that you can fulfill your duties responsibly and professionally.
Care needs are assessed on a shift-by-shift basis using INPULS (Intensive Care and Performance Recording System), and the nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:1 to a maximum of 1:2.
Our hearts beat for intensive care. For excellent intensive care tomorrow
As a university medical center, it is our mission to pioneer nursing innovations at the national and international levels and to promptly implement them in clinical practice. We fulfill this mission through care models such as the establishment of mobilization nursing experts (HighCare Team), respiratory therapists, and advanced practice nurses. The increasingly complex demands in the various areas of intensive care require the continuous adaptation of standards and concepts, as well as the implementation of new findings. In quality circles such as the “Evidence and Practice Development in Intensive Care” working group and the “Wound Management in Intensive Care” group, holistic, patient-centered standards are developed, taking into account the latest findings in nursing science. These standards are a cornerstone for ensuring high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care, the continuous improvement of processes and treatments, and increased satisfaction among patients and staff.
Our passion is intensive care. Your start with us. With the best support
We go to great lengths to ensure you have a successful start in intensive care at the MHH. All new colleagues begin their tenure with an orientation session and have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the various areas of patient care, administration, and support services. This gives you an initial insight into the diversity of the MHH and allows you to start building networks with your new colleagues.
In addition, we offer a comprehensive onboarding program for intensive care. As you begin your career, we provide you with close, high-quality, individualized, and detailed onboarding through a tandem system. Mentors will be at your side for up to 6 months. They ensure that our new colleagues receive all necessary information about our care processes and can quickly integrate into our teams. The onboarding process is accompanied by practical guidance, regular training, as well as individual support and regular feedback. This allows you to grow into your role step by step and develop both personally and professionally.
